Job Description

Fork and Filter is looking for a skilled and experienced Chef to join our team on a full-time basis at Shop 1/60 Belgrave Road, Malvern East VIC 3145, Australia.

The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and presenting quality meals, assisting with the effective operation of the kitchen, and ensuring high standards of food safety, hygiene and service are maintained.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and plan menus in consultation with management, taking into account seasonal ingredients, dietary needs and customer preferences.
  • Calculate food and labour costs and arrange the timely purchase of required ingredients and kitchen supplies.
  • Maintain and monitor the quality, presentation and consistency of food from preparation through to service.
  • Work closely with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house personnel to coordinate food preparation and kitchen activities.
  • Demonstrate suitable cooking techniques and provide guidance to kitchen staff on preparation methods and kitchen procedures.
  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes efficiently while maintaining consistent quality and presentation standards.
  • Ensure all kitchen activities comply with relevant hygiene, occupational health and food safety requirements.
  • Assist with the recruitment, supervision, training and development of kitchen staff when required.
  • Ensure food is appropriately portioned, preserved, stored and frozen in accordance with food safety requirements and industry standards.
     

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Chef within a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Sound knowledge of food safety legislation, hygiene practices and HACCP principles.
  • Good spoken and written English communication skills.
