We are seeking a skilled and experienced Retail Buyer to support the purchasing, sourcing and range planning of organic, natural and specialty grocery products. This role is suited to a commercially aware professional who can identify quality products, manage supplier relationships and make buying decisions based on customer demand, seasonal trends and business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage and improve product ranges across fresh produce, pantry, dairy and specialty grocery categories.
- Source quality organic, biodynamic, natural and specialty food products from trusted suppliers, growers and wholesale markets.
- Ensure all selected products meet business standards, customer expectations and seasonal availability.
- Review sales performance, customer preferences and market trends to support accurate purchasing and stock decisions.
- Carry out regular supplier sourcing, product selection and purchasing activities, including early morning market visits where required.
- Negotiate supplier pricing, order quantities, delivery terms and purchasing conditions to achieve the best outcomes for the business.
- Prepare and manage purchase orders to maintain consistent supply of fresh and packaged grocery products.
- Monitor product performance and recommend new product opportunities, range changes or removal of slow-moving items.
- Build strong working relationships with suppliers, growers and producers to ensure reliable supply and consistent product quality.
- Work with management to ensure product selection supports customer needs, seasonal demand and overall business goals.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Retail Buyer, Buyer, Purchasing Officer or similar purchasing role.
- Previous experience in grocery retail, fresh produce, organic food, FMCG or specialty food products will be highly valued.
- Strong buying, negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Ability to review sales data, market trends and customer demand to make sound purchasing decisions.
- Good understanding of retail buying, seasonal product planning, consumer trends and stock movement.
- Strong communication, organisation and relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple product categories, suppliers and purchasing tasks at the same time.
- Relevant qualification in business, retail, merchandising, purchasing or a related field is preferred.
