Job Description

BUFO PAINT is seeking a skilled Painter and Decorator to complete painting, surface preparation and finishing work across residential and commercial projects. The role involves preparing interior and exterior surfaces, applying paints and protective coatings, completing decorative finishes, and ensuring all work is delivered with a neat, durable and professional finish.

The successful candidate will be required to work with different painting materials, tools and equipment while following job instructions, safety procedures and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare walls, ceilings, doors, trims and other surfaces for painting and finishing work.
  • Clean, sand, scrape, patch and repair surfaces before applying paint or coatings.
  • Apply primers, sealers, undercoats and finishing coats using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
  • Mix paints, stains, varnishes and other finishes to achieve required colours and textures.
  • Apply paint, enamel, varnish, stain and other coatings to interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Cover floors, furniture, fittings and surrounding areas to protect them during painting work.
  • Remove old paint, wallpaper or damaged finishes using suitable tools and preparation methods.
  • Fill cracks, holes and gaps using plaster, caulking, putty or other filling materials.
  • Read work orders, follow supervisor instructions and complete tasks according to job requirements.
  • Use ladders, scaffolding and access equipment safely when working at heights.
  • Carry out decorative and special finishing techniques where required.
  • Apply waterproofing, sealants and protective coatings as needed.
  • Maintain painting tools, machinery and equipment in good working condition.
  • Keep accurate job records and report any site issues or material requirements.
  • Clean the work area after completion and ensure tools and materials are stored correctly.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
Tools & Technology:
  • Paint brushes, rollers and spray guns
  • Scrapers, sanders and sanding machines
  • Ladders and scaffolding equipment
  • Drop sheets and masking tape
  • Putty knives and caulking guns
  • Paint removers and surface preparation products
  • Wallpaper paste and application tools
  • Stencils and decorative finishing tools
  • Protective clothing, hats, gloves and face masks
Knowledge Required:
  • Knowledge of residential and commercial painting practices.
  • Understanding of paints, stains, varnishes, enamels, lacquers, epoxies and related materials.
  • Ability to prepare different surfaces for painting and finishing.
  • Understanding of colour matching, coating application and finishing methods.
  • Knowledge of safe handling, storage and maintenance of painting tools and equipment.
  • Awareness of workplace health and safety requirements in the painting trade.
  • Ability to identify painting hazards and follow proper safety precautions.
Qualifications / Experience:
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant painting experience required.
  • Minimum Certificate III in Painting and Decorating or equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to complete work to a professional standard.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work safely and maintain a clean work environment.
