What We are Looking For 

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Cook with a strong understanding of Indian cuisine and a genuine passion for quality food preparation. You will be a reliable team player with excellent attention to detail, time management, and food safety awareness.

 

About This Role
  • Check food quality by examining ingredients, tasting, and adjusting seasoning and consistency before service.
    Operate cooking equipment safely and effectively, including tandoors, fryers, ovens, and grills.
  • Prepare, cook, and present authentic Indian dishes including curries, tandoori items, biryanis, breads, and vegetarian specialties in accordance with Indian Room’s standards.
  • Cook and prepare dishes using traditional Indian methods such as tandoor cooking, spice blending, marination, and slow-cooking techniques.
  • Ensure all meals are prepared consistently, maintaining correct portion sizes, flavour balance, and presentation standards.
  • Store and preserve sauces, spice mixes, and pre-prepared items according to quality and safety guidelines.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing ingredients and supplies to maintain stock levels and freshness.
  • Assist in planning and preparing daily menus under the direction of senior chefs, incorporating seasonal produce and customer preferences.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene in all food preparation and storage areas, following Queensland hospitality and food safety standards.
  • Monitor wastage, use ingredients efficiently, and support the team in achieving cost-effective kitchen operations.
  • Follow instructions from senior kitchen staff and management to ensure smooth workflow during busy service periods. 
  • Assist in training and guiding junior kitchen staff in food preparation and safe working procedures.
    Work collaboratively with other kitchen and service staff to ensure timely and accurate meal delivery.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Certificate III or IV or diploma in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience preparing Indian cuisine in a commercial kitchen.
  • Sound knowledge of Indian ingredients, regional dishes, and cooking styles.
  • Ability to follow recipes accurately and maintain consistency in quality and taste.
  • Understanding of safe food handling and hygiene practices.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and ability to perform under pressure.
